Love Your Children

Texas 2

Today is my daughter’s first birthday. One year ago today, right about now, she decided to very dramatically and quickly join this world.

A head full of white hair. So white that her whole birth team said they had never seen hair so white.

She was perfect. She is perfect.

Last night, as I watched the news I held her a little bit longer than usual before I laid her down.

I pretended not to notice the time when my 9 year old snuck down to sit beside us.

And then my three year old. In the living room he tottled. Not one to be forgotten.

And Cooper listening to Joy to the World in the corner. He’s really into Christmas music right now. Then We Wish You a Merry Christmas and This Little Light of Mine.

We talked about Wynnie’s birthday. And planets. A birthday party this weekend.

Time stopped for a bit before a little voice said…‘I peed the bed last night.’ Up we got to change sheets and make beds. Brush teeth. Tuck little ones in.

I have no wise words. Besides, love your children. Breathe love into them. Encourage them. Accept them. Listen to them. Get them help if they need it. Hug them. Hold them. Protect them.

Let them sneak down. Let them giggle and laugh. Change the sheets. Tuck them in. Listen to their prayers.

Love your children. That’s all I got today.
