Beauty in the Things We Don’t Understand

It doesn’t have to make sense to me. Or you. Because it makes sense to him.

My son Cooper loves things. Treasures we call them.

DVD cases stacked up tall.

The actual DVDs in a bin in the cupboard.

Books. Piles of paper. Every color. Train magazines from long before he was born.

And a very special pile. A smaller one. Of pages ripped out of certain publications. Each one containing something of value to him.

Train Calendars. Postcards.

Photos in frames to his back. Every so often pointing to one and smiling.

He has a system.

A blue piece of paper. A photo from when he was a baby. The cover of the book I wrote for him.

There is such beauty sometimes in the things we don’t understand.

Christmas music. That is what is playing on his iPad right now.

He can’t wait. He’s on the countdown.

Autism. I don’t always understand. So I try to see the beauty.

Finding Cooper’s Voice is a safe, humorous, caring and honest place where you can celebrate the unique challenges of parenting a special needs child. Because you’re never alone in the struggles you face. And once you find your people, your allies, your village….all the challenges and struggles will seem just a little bit easier. Welcome to our journey. Follow us on FacebookInstagram, and join our supporter page, Coop’s Troops, for an amazing community full of support and understanding.
