The Beautiful Gift of Life

We just had one of those great nights. One where you realize what a gift life is.

We laughed and giggled on our walk. There was running and teasing and stolen hugs and kisses.

There was life. So much beautiful life that I had to pause and say thank you.

My oldest son asked for a birthday party and to see a blue whale. All without words.

My second oldest rode his dirt bike and climbed trees and tried to convince me that he’s going to be 10 instead of 9 in January. And all I could think is…it’s going to fast. I need time to slow down.

My youngest son, my sunshine boy, trailed after his brother as fast as he could and mimicked every word out of his mouth. And he asked me to not turn the dark on because he wanted to keep playing. I blinked and he’s almost 3. He wants to be bigger so badly.

I got to smell my sweet daughter’s head and kiss her fuzzy duck hair. And she coo’d and smiled the whole entire time. And I willed her stay small for as long as possible.

It was a good night. A joyful night. The kind that keeps us going to baths and homework and bedtime.
