I Wonder When You Wander

I wonder when you wander

As you pace up and down the hall

What it is you’re thinking

As you run your fingers along the wall

I wonder when you wander

When you silently slip away

What it is you feel inside

As all the others continue to play

I wonder when you wander

What you want to say

When you retreat back into your world

To script and script away

I wonder when you wander

What it is you see

When you take off from your safety net

When you run away from me

I wonder when you wander

When you look up to the open sky

What it is that captures you

As you spin and watch the clouds float by

I wonder when you wander

Out and towards the street

What made you release your grasp

Was it the vibrations beneath your feet

I wonder when you wander

Why the water draws you so near

As you closely watch the surface dance

Never once overcome with fear

I wonder when you wander

If deep inside your head

You remember all we’ve practiced

So we can always kiss goodnight before bed
