If It Makes Them Happy, Do It.
There is a quote that says, ‘don’t ever save anything for a special occasion. Every day you’re alive is a special occasion.’
My son Cooper reminds me of that quote every single day.
The reason I’m sharing it with you is because someone recently commented on one of my posts, pointing out that we always have balloons in our house. And it’s true, they are everywhere.
They drift through the house, from room to room.
Birthday balloons. Dora balloons. Square. Round. All brightly colored.
Some old. Some new.
Why?
Because our son Cooper loves parties. And there was a day not that long ago, when I could count the things he loved on one hand.
Parties were one of them. And I don’t mean elaborate parties with people or fancy food or gifts.
I mean balloons. Dancing in the kitchen. Loud music. Birthday hats. Train whistles. Brothers. Mom and dad. Singing silly songs. Streamers. Homemade invitations.
And cake. Sometimes cupcakes. But usually cake.
We have parties in this house all the time. We make a huge deal about each one.
And this little boy gets to celebrate. And we celebrate him and everything that makes him unique and happy.
I guess my advice is, if your find something that makes your child happy, do it. Don’t wait for the special occasion. Because once a year just isn’t enough.
Have the party. Buy the balloons. Eat the cake.
For us it’s created a brightly colored bridge, one that blares happy music and little boy giggles, and brings our son into our world, and us into his.
And if you stop by for the party, bring a balloon. You’ll make someone’s day.
