Autism and Regression

_DSC9840-12

Hey all. Yesterday we had a heartbreaking day and it hit our family pretty hard. And to make it worse it seems that something is super ‘off’ with Cooper. We can’t seem to get him regulated and as we sat and analyzed his behaviors last night we realized he’s been off for over a week. And for the life of us we can’t figure out what’s changed in his world. This regression is dramatic. And a huge shock.

This is one of the hardest parts of raising a nonverbal kid. We as parents know something is wrong or different and we can’t figure out what it is…and it hits your family monumentally.

We are pretty down over here. We’ve had so many wins lately that we felt on top of the world. And yesterday we saw behaviors in Cooper that knocked us right down. After huge meltdowns like that you just sit and think…have I failed? What more can I do? And how much longer can we keep going at this pace?

I’m so very sorry for this setback, Kate– especially because Cooper’s been accomplishing so much lately. That makes a day like you had all the more disappointing and scary. Just know you are not alone. Hugs and prayers for you, Jamie and your sweet sons.
